Speaking on 12 April 1971, Neville used the Mafia informer as his example of a Judas — a betrayer of a trust: "A man just died in New York City in prison who betrayed the trust of the Mafia. He was one of the leaders in the Mafia, and he gave to the FBI the true name, 'Our Thing' — Cosa Nostra. No one claimed his body." He had been kept alive in prison against the price on his head, and Neville set him beside the Judas of scripture only to say he was not the same thing. A transcriber's footnote identifies him as Joseph M. Valachi, who died on 3 April 1971 aged 67, nine days before the lecture, having disclosed the workings of Cosa Nostra to the 1963 Senate hearings.
