The 'Doddleston incident': in the small English village of Doddleston, 1984-1986, an entity calling itself Thomas Harden -- claiming to be from 1545, the reign of Henry VIII -- left 250 messages in period-accurate English on the home computers of researchers Ken Webster and Debbie Oaks; when 'Harden' departed, entities calling themselves '2109' took his place.
