A friend gave Neville a D. H. Lawrence poem last Monday night, which led him to recall his many discussions with Aldous Huxley, who told him Lawrence was the most extraordinary man he ever knew — able to describe being inside the skin of his New Mexico cow, and perfect at sewing, darning, embroidery and woodwork, yet able to sit and do nothing.
