Reported to Hilson while he was in Boston, before his return to Bangor; no calendar date given.
Per Bangor's Simon Hilson, reporting on a trip to Boston: before he left Massachusetts he learned that Samuel Waltzkowitz — already known in Bangor as a self-described colored Egyptian/Hebrew who solicited charity under false pretenses (see the linked Bangor conviction event) — had been arrested in Brockton, MA for working the identical scheme there. The clipping adds that young Bangor Hebrew Simon Hilson, who had originally exposed Waltzkowitz, later met him again in Boston, where Waltzkowitz claimed the Bangor Hebrews had secured his release, begged his pardon, and that he had brought a defamation-of-character suit against Hilson; Hilson did not credit this and made inquiries among Hebrew friends in Boston, learning before he left Massachusetts that Waltzkowitz had in fact been arrested in Brockton for working the same scheme. A further independently scraped copy (node 4111) confirms the wording; no additional dating information.
