Before writing his June 1934 report for the London paper 'The Rally', Walter Lanyon visited Father Divine's Kingdoms in New York in person and checked the movement's claims for himself. He states in the article that he verified most of his facts and figures himself; that he ate at the table and, on that basis, judged the menu he was given to be genuinely representative and 'in no way exaggerated'; that he asked for that menu specifically; and that he asked Father Divine directly for a statement 'for you and your readers'. He describes the premises from the inside — the four-storey houses fitted out with rooms and offices, the former Turkish bath whose three swimming pools had been kept, the private suite maintained for Father Divine in each. He also flew in the movement's newly acquired aircraft: a twelve-passenger aeroplane recently added to the buses and chauffeured cars, 'the Plane in which I had the pleasure to ride', with 'PEACE TO THE WORLD AT LARGE' painted on its side. He enclosed photographs of it with the article he sent to London.
