The California Eagle, the Black newspaper published in Los Angeles, reprinted Walter Lanyon's first-hand report on Father Divine in full, under his byline and under the standing headings 'FATHER DIVINE — Personification Of The Fathership Degree Of God' and 'LONDON HEARS THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD'S PRESENCE HERE ON EARTH', introduced as a 'COPY OF ARTICLE ON FATHER DIVINE' and credited to the June 1934 issue of the London paper 'The Rally'.
The reprint is a fact about reception rather than about Lanyon: it places a white New Thought author's sympathetic eyewitness account of Father Divine's movement in front of a Los Angeles Black readership, and the Eagle's own framing headline foregrounds that London had heard the news.
