Writing in his syndicated column 'Thought for the Day', J. R. Moseley recorded: 'Sunday evening, June 11, I had the joy of being with Mrs. Phoebe Holmes, the remarkable woman of 90, and with Walter Lanyon and other most interesting and gifted [people]. All three of us spoke.' The host is described but never named: 'the gracious lady who was our host was a practitioner in the best known school of present-day metaphysical healing', and later in the column, 'our gracious hostess, and Hollywood star, and practitioner'. Her identity is not recoverable from this clipping. Moseley gives the content of his own talk. He explained that it is well for us to do as the people in Jesus' day did — to take all of our cases to Him that are beyond us — and told of a practitioner who had such a series of emergency cases one morning that she simply said, 'Jesus, they're too much for me. Won't you please take care of them.' A short time afterwards, phone messages began to pour in saying there had been complete healings in every case. Afterwards the hostess took him aside and told him that she had felt Jesus wanted to help her especially with her difficult cases, but that she had felt it would not be scientific. The column goes on to describe a separate occasion a few days later, an afternoon meeting in Hollywood at which five metaphysical practitioners were present; Lanyon is not placed at that meeting. The location of the 11 June gathering is not stated and none has been assigned here. What Lanyon and Mrs. Holmes said on the evening is not reported.
