While serving in the Army, at age thirty-eight, Neville used the technique of assuming a desired end to imagine his way to an honorable discharge. He went to sleep physically on his cot in the barracks but imagined himself in his own bed in New York City; nine days later the same colonel who had refused his request granted him the discharge. He offers the story as personal proof that 'whatever you desire, believe that you have received it, and you will' (Mark 11).
