Neville recounts an out-of-body experience from fifteen years earlier, while asleep in a Beverly Hills hotel bed: his awareness left his sleeping body and found itself inside a different, plush hotel, able to walk its corridors and pass through the space as naturally as in waking life. Meeting two women in a hallway, he told them, 'this is a dream,' recognizing exactly how the experience had begun. He then realized he was shut out of his physical body in an equally solid world of its own, and grew anxious over unfinished business back home -- a wife not adequately provided for and a daughter not yet through school -- which he needed to return to attend to.
