Neville recalls that when he was about seven years old in Barbados, a strange elderly Englishwoman living on a pension in a remote, sea-battered part of the island told his fortune: she said he would leave Barbados and not return except to visit, that he would be the first in his family to marry, and that he would have two children. He offers this, together with the story of his own naming (told to him later by his mother), as evidence that his life's course was foreseen before he lived it.
