When Neville introduced Fred to his own son Philip, the two failed to recognise each other, though each knew his relation to Neville. He reads the dream as a symbol of the Father and the divine Son who do not yet know one another, tying it to the apostle Philip's request in John's Gospel to be shown the Father.
