Neville recalls the depths of the Great Depression, when he says he did not know where to find a nickel and had four mouths to feed. Rather than spend a nickel on the subway, he would walk fifty blocks from his home in the Village hoping to find a friend who might lend him money. He notes a woman in the audience that night who, along with his wife, had been present at his very first meeting and could vouch for the truth of it. Even in that poverty, he says, he remained incapable of stealing or deceiving anyone for personal gain -- and it was in that state that he was taken in spirit into the presence of 'the Ancient of Days,' who asked him, 'What is the greatest thing in the world?'
