Sitting quietly in contemplation in 1934, watching the interior of his own skull grow luminous with golden liquid light, Neville saw a rock appear before him out of nowhere. It shattered into countless pieces, which then gathered themselves not back into a rock but into a human form seated in the lotus posture -- a figure he recognized as himself. As he watched, the figure grew ever more luminous until it reached its peak intensity and exploded, leaving him only the memory of the experience. He says he did not understand it at the time and simply recorded it, coming to understand it only years later in light of Deuteronomy 32's description of God as 'the Rock' that begot him.
