Neville recounts that after his friend and mentor Abdullah told him in 1933 'you will die but not surely die,' he traveled to Barbados still bound by a strict regimen of vegetarianism, total abstinence, and celibacy. He returned three months later free of every one of those restrictions, discovering he could now drink wine and liquor and enjoy them, though when he tried smoking he found he could not enjoy it.
