Neville tells his audience that a few nights earlier he had gone to see Laurence Olivier perform in Richard III -- having also previously seen him as Hamlet -- and uses the actor's ability to play many different characters while always remaining himself as an illustration against the doctrine of reincarnation: just as Olivier was never truly any of the parts he played, the dreamer of this life's dream is never truly any of the roles it assumes.
