Neville describes a vision, received by revelation rather than taught to him, of leading a great throng in colorful Near Eastern dress in procession toward an invisible house of God. A voice announced that God walked among them; when a woman beside him asked where God was, the voice answered 'at your side,' and she turned to look beside her, not realizing that Neville himself, standing at her other side, was the answer. The vision then turned private, heard only by him: a voice telling him that God had 'laid himself down within you to sleep' and was dreaming -- the realization that he himself is the indwelling dreamer, Jesus Christ, dreaming that he is Neville.
