After sleeping in the belief that he was already in Barbados throughout February 1941, Neville and his wife later received a cable telling them his mother was terminally ill and urging him to come; despite Britain's wartime currency controls preventing his family from sending him money, he and his wife sailed the very next night on the old Argentina. He arrived and physically slept in his mother's home in Barbados in August 1941 -- exactly the room he had imagined sleeping in six months earlier -- and stayed three weeks before returning; his mother died two weeks after they left.
