At a dinner party the Saturday night before this lecture, a friend with a PhD asked Neville why so few people attended his lectures given how remarkable his teaching was; Neville pointed out that PhDs themselves are rarer, proportionally, than the size of his own audience, which satisfied his friend that numbers were not the measure. At the same dinner, another guest raised the question of why, if the Promise is unconditional, Neville bothers to teach the Law at all.
