A woman wrote to Neville noting that his lecture series would be closing at the end of June, and asked that the Tuesday night talks be devoted specifically to teaching on 'the law,' since she could not attend on Fridays. He read her letter at home a week before this talk and mentioned the request at a dinner party the following Saturday, where another guest observed that since the promise is unconditional it will happen regardless, so the conditioned state -- the law -- was indeed worth explaining separately. Prompted by this, Neville devoted this lecture entirely to the law, while making clear he was not committing to do so for every remaining talk before the season closed.
