During a five-week stay in New York a few weeks before this lecture, Neville and his artist wife had dinner with close friends, and she admired their hostess Louise's painting so warmly that Louise insisted on giving it to her. His wife kept declining, and Louise kept insisting every night they attended his meetings in New York, until the evening before Neville left, when she finally accepted it -- the same painting now hanging in the room as Neville tells the story.
