Neville describes meeting, about twenty years before this telling, a couple who became dear friends -- the husband then representing a small pharmaceutical manufacturer back East. They had first come to his lectures during the years his theatre was filled and the crowd would go on to a hotel afterward as a purely social gathering; when he ended that pattern, this couple stayed friends with him even though, by his own account, they never truly grasped his teaching.
