Neville reported, in the week it happened, that a nephew of Milton Berle - a young man in his twenties - was shot dead during a simulated car-theft arrest. The exercise staged the catching of a car thief, with a deputy playing the thief; neither man knew the deputy's gun was loaded, and the deputy shot and killed him. Neville told it alongside a friend's dream of being shot on stage by an actor whose gun turned out not to hold a blank, and offered it as consolation to the family.
