Neville mentions reading William F. Buckley's newspaper column that morning, in which Buckley quoted an English bishop who had spoken at Canterbury Cathedral saying he doubted the bishop would recognize a Christian if he met one, or recognize Christianity itself if he read it. Neville says he agrees with the remark, extending it to the cardinals and popes he has personally encountered, all of whom he considers just as far removed from the true story of Jesus as he understands and teaches it.
