Neville recounts that in 1959 he underwent a mystical 'birth from above' in which he discovered that he was, in a spiritual sense, the father of the biblical King David -- the same David whom scripture reports called the coming Messiah 'Lord' even though, by ordinary descent, that Messiah was supposed to be his own son. He presents his own experience as paralleling one his friend Bob had already undergone and one he expects his friend Benny to have around the following March, framing all three as unfolding in the same chronological pattern.
