A contemporary notice of the book (node:4280, media:1660), headed 'WINS PRAISE OF CRITICS — Book Written by Walter Lanyon Is Favorably Received', gives the first account in this corpus of what the book actually is. 'The story proper is laid in Jerusalem and [deals] with the life and happenings of a potter who is a metaphysician'; with an inspirational philosophy he works out a solution to some of the problems that come to him.
On its reception, the notice reports very favourable comment from the eastern jobbers who were to handle the book for Lanyon, favourable criticism 'from a literary standpoint', and praise for the physical make-up as well as the text.
