Neville tells his audience that before 1959 he might simply have interpreted scripture as one more preacher offering his own reading of the text. Since that year, he says, he cannot do this any longer, because he himself was called and sent -- he has become the one the story of scripture is actually about, rather than merely its interpreter, and he asks his listeners to imitate what he now knows by hearing and believing it.
