Neville recalls that in 1941, after his first book came out through Harper Brothers, the publisher sent him to a prominent lecture agent named Peakings -- the oldest speakers' agent in the country, whose roster included Eleanor Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Peakings gave him a friendly interview on the strength of the Harper Brothers connection, but told him he could not take him on without more publicity, since he was still entirely unknown.
