On the Saturday morning of the actual Belmont Stakes, around ten o'clock and some seven hours before post time, Neville told his daughter exactly how the race would finish - Arts and Letters first, Majestic Prince (winner of that year's Derby and Preakness) second, and Dike third - before it was run. He recalls that afterward jockey Eddie Arcaro and other experts second-guessed the race's pacing, not realizing the outcome could not have gone any other way once he had already seen it.
