In Neville's standing account of his own mystical sequence, 139 days after his July 20, 1959 awakening ('the birth from the skull,' which he calls Golgotha) he was shown the appearance of the son -- David, in his account -- who revealed to him that he, Neville, is David's eternal father. He tells this interval twice in the corpus: once in the first person answering a question about 'the pattern,' and once in the third person as the standard shape the awakening takes for anyone who experiences it.
