Neville recalls that after he and his first wife separated, their young son was shuttled back and forth between them 'like a swinging door,' and his devout mother, worried about the boy's baptism, eventually took him to Barbados for a couple of years before his wife suddenly reclaimed him. He says that when the divorce was finally granted, he was awarded outright custody at the age of twelve, and offers this as background to why his mother pressed him to have the boy baptized.
