The morning of this lecture, Neville read several Robert Graves poems printed in the Los Angeles Times Book Review, and one verse in particular -- about a 'Royal love' that alone 'restores fragmentation into true unity' -- struck him deeply. He connects the line to his own recollection of a 1934 vision in which a fragmented quartz rock gathered itself into a seated human form of great beauty, which he recognized as a vision of himself.
