Earlier the same day as this lecture, Neville visited a friend he had once believed truly understood his teaching -- a comfortably well-off man living with his wife in Beverly Hills, both in their late seventies. The couple, frightened by fringe radio broadcasters into believing California would sink into the sea, were planning to move to Arizona to wait out their remaining years. Neville reflects that their fear showed they knew only 'Neville' the man, not the message he had spent his life delivering.
