Neville describes an ecstatic vision, 11 years before this telling (which would place it on 8 April 1959), in which he felt himself lifted up and his body -- 'the cross' he wore -- split in two from top to bottom. Looking at the two halves, he saw a pool of golden, pulsing liquid light and recognized it as himself, describing himself as fusing with it, observer and observed together, and calling it 'my own redeemer and creator.'
