Everyone else invited made excuses; only those four came. They are seated waiting for the host, who is Messiah, and when he appears they are not fed as we would be fed on this level - they are restored to wholeness, and the blind begin to see. Neville's reading is that the four are not a class of unfortunates but four qualities that everybody has, and he proves it with wealth: I may this night be a billionaire and I cannot buy health, am I not poor? I may buy yes-men, but I can't buy real respect. They cannot see what God has done from the beginning to the end - are they not blind? So the ones who make excuses are the ones who do not know they are poor. The feeding is by sight: they become what they behold, and because he is whole, everyone beholding him is made whole.
