Neville reads it as a dated change of faculty in a named man rather than as an exhortation to charity, and the gloss he adds is always the same two clauses: he saw him once as a man, and now he regards him thus no longer. What happened in between is the vision, and the verse is therefore evidence that Paul's Christ was not a remembered acquaintance.
