Three lectures (1185, 1807, 2002), and it is the hardest consequence Neville draws from the unity he teaches. If everyone will be the father of the same son, then every relation in the world is between one being and itself, and the word for that in scripture is incest. He does not use the word to shock and he does not use it to licence anything; he uses it to show that a category collapses. At 1185 it is put generally - anyone you know has to be incest if it is all God and you are God - and Reuben going up to his mother's bed is read as the scripture admitting it. At 1807 it comes through Shelley, who was accused of incest by his contemporaries, and Neville turns the accusation into an argument: if I am the father of your son, my wife will one day have the experience of being the father of my son, and my son is David, yet she has borne me a child - well, isn't that incest? Why, she's myself. At 2002 the same point is made of the one who came out of his mother and was her husband, with the note that on this level it would seem immoral. The motif is therefore a test of whether the unity is being taken literally: if it is, the moral categories built on separate persons have nothing left to apply to.
