Romans 8:29-30 counted out as five terms and used as the structure of God’s own method, against which the human formula of this lecture (thought, act, habit, character, destiny) is deliberately set: on this level anyone can be free, there is another level, it is God’s level — and so the same five terms, but they are changed in the way he does it. The argument Neville draws from them is always the same one and he states it as a challenge rather than a claim: you cannot take these five terms and come to any other conclusion other than predestination. At 30 and 118 it is I know of no way you can take the five terms and interpret them otherwise; at 1035 there is no way of interpreting these terms to avoid such a conclusion; at 1177 how can you interpret these five terms and reach any other conclusion. What each term is made to mean is where the work is done. Foreknowledge is not foresight but containment — we’re all locked within him, like brain cells in the mind of the great thinker (1053). Justification is divine acquittal (59). Glorification is the one that matters and it is never a reward: it is the complete gift of himself at the end of the drama (1165), the gift of God Himself to you, so that man then matures when he becomes his own father (59), and here in 1053 it is defined straight out of John 17 — he’s asking God to give him himself. The moral consequence is stated without softening and in the present tense, so that no repentance is smuggled in: if you’ve been a murderer, if you are a murderer, if your future state is to be one, you are predestined to be conformed to the image of God. That is the same verse held by [conformed-to-the-image], which is the single phrase; this motif is the chain it sits in. COUNT: mine and provisional — the phrase probe finds the sequence in about twenty lectures (30, 59, 83, 118, 1035, 1053, 1165, 1177, 1226, 1229, 1343, 1385, 1396, 1414, 1470, 1777, 1816, 1842, 1847, 2023, 2031, 3996), and the attach lanes should check rather than inherit it.

So there still are five stages, beginning with foreknowledge and ending with glorification. Well, what is the glorification? It’s himself, as revealed in the Book of John
