Neville’s christology in one sentence, and the claim on which every other reading of the gospel in the corpus depends: Jesus is not a man who lived but a pattern that unfolds, and the pattern is already in you. So, here, I tell you: Jesus Christ is the Pattern Man. Don’t expect to see him on the outside. He is the pattern, a pattern that is buried in every man, and that pattern contains the plan of redemption (1472). At 1993 the instruction is given outright — do not think of Jesus as a man. Think of Jesus as a pattern — and the pattern is dated: predetermined before that the world was. Three consequences follow and each is stated somewhere in the set. BOUNDARY. [in-the-fullness-of-time-it-erupts] holds the EVENT — that the pattern erupts, that the timing is God’s and unpredictable, and the four mighty acts that follow. This motif holds the IDENTIFICATION — that the pattern IS Jesus Christ, which is a claim about who Jesus is rather than about when anything happens.
