It is the nature of love, as of hate, to change us into the likeness of what we contemplate: we become an ideal by falling in love with it, or become what we condemn by condemning it; conquerors become like the conquered, and those who destroy tyrants become tyrants, for breaking the mirror does not destroy the image. So qualities are best changed by contemplating the lovely.
