Neville's story of a costume designer at the Music Hall in New York (later told as his wife) whose producer rejected her best work and was rude to her. She confessed she argued with him silently each morning on her way to work; Neville had her imagine instead that he was congratulating her on her designs and she was thanking him. She did it morning after morning and his behaviour reversed: men can only echo to us what we whisper to them in secret.
