Psalm 46:10, 'Be still, and know that I am God', read as the stillness in which one knows 'I am that which I desire': the end of longing is always to be, not to do, and one strives after being. Man's chief delusion is that he can do anything; nothing is done, everything happens as rain falls, so one must be. Later lectures return to the stillness in which I AM is known as God.
