Luke 11:5-8. The man who knocks at midnight for three loaves is given them not for friendship but for his importunity, literally 'shameless impudence': the necessity of persisting in prayer until one has imagined oneself into the answered prayer, reached one's friend on a higher level of consciousness, and the feeling of the wish fulfilled has all the sensory vividness of reality.
