After Yeats (unattributed here): all happiness depends on the energy to assume the mask of some other self. To assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled is to put on the mask of a more perfect life; an active virtue, as against passive acceptance of a code, is theatrical, the wearing of a mask; and one who cannot imagine himself different and assume that second self cannot discipline himself.
