John 18:37-38: Jesus, born to bear witness to the truth, stands before Pontius Pilate, the arm of Caesar, who asks 'What is truth?' and gets no answer. Read as imagination, the embodiment of truth, standing before reason: truth does not justify itself, for it sees everything as subjectively related to itself and itself as the source of all that happens; and truth is not confined by the facts.
