Mark 8:24, the healed blind man's 'I see men as trees, walking', joined to Neville's own vision when the inner eye opened: men seen as trees, some like the little antlers of a stag, others majestic in foliage, the awakened in full bloom. With Isaiah 61:3 ('trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord') and Daniel 4 (the great tree felled, its roots kept and watered with the dew of heaven until it grows again, this time consciously): men are destined to be trees in the garden of God, and each branch lifted up in another blossoms on the tree of the man who awakens.
