Acts 5: Peter tells the council 'we must obey God and not man', and those present are angry enough to do the disciples harm, until one among them - a teacher, a Pharisee named Gamaliel - says do not kill them, for if this teaching or this work be of men it will come to naught, but if it be of God you cannot overthrow it, and you may even find yourselves having to fight against God. Neville reads the name: Gamaliel comes from a word meaning to wean, as a child is weaned so that it can go out and feed on other food. We are here to mature and be weaned from what we formerly thought was true, and the teaching's own test is Gamaliel's - all he asks is that one try it.
