Dying as the mystic means it: detaching oneself so completely from what is taking place that one dies to that state - dying to ill health, to poverty, to disharmony - by yielding to another state. Every such little death is the lifting of the divine image. Done for another it is the same act: crucify yourself for him, see what you should see and die to what you formerly saw, and God sees; after enough of these little deaths there is nothing left to condemn, for whoever the man is, it is God playing every part.
