Barbados had a good school system, though not beyond high school, and as a boy Neville watched the children arriving from the other islands at the start of the year in their new clothes with their new books, excited and not knowing what it was about. Then the parents kissed them goodbye and left them in a strange place, and many a child cried himself to sleep, not for a night but for the whole term, out of homesickness and loneliness - and the parents did it in love and only love. Many sent their children on to England at great sacrifice and could not afford to bring them home for vacations, so they waited years to see them again. Given the choice, what child would go to school? An infinite being of love did the same thing to us.
