The seed fell on four kinds of ground. The first is the highway, unprepared, where no seed takes root: those who will not listen. The second is stony ground - they take the teaching but it has no root, and the first thing they say is 'Oh, it would have happened anyway!' The third falls among the thorns and thistles; it roots deeper than the seed on the rock, but they believe at bottom that only money gets things, and the teaching is choked by the thorns of their unbelief. The fourth is well-prepared ground, where it roots deeply and produces fifty and a hundredfold.
