Two exercises for tearing Jacob from Esau, which he calls bi-location. First, at home where he knows every part of a room, he sits facing one wall with his eyes closed and looks ahead to see not the wall in front of him but the one behind him, until the room has reversed itself, or he has - and he notes that this tone of reversibility runs through the whole Bible. Second, sitting physically in his living room on the sixteenth floor in New York, he assumes he is standing on the street in front of the apartment house and sees the details on the building's marquee; then, still in imagination, walks back into the building, comes upstairs and sits down where Esau is. The next time he actually went out and took Esau with him, he saw on the marquee what he had not noticed the last time he looked at it physically. The instruction that follows is to sit in one room and view another, seeing what you would see if you were physically there - and never to walk about wholly integrated, as a being that is only a garment of flesh.
